As the summer heat rises the Cup drivers get hotter. As the race for the chase fizzles down tempers could get hotter, especially at Bristol this weekend, and a different driver might just emerge as the one to beat.
Stewart, the first year driver/owner, is in the driver's seat right now. Many people wondered if he could win a race let alone compete for the championship.
At 50 Martin is having the time of his life in that 5 car. He is proving he is a man on a mission.
His teammate in that 48 car knows how to win a championship, or three. He may be third in the points right now but he might just be the one to watch.
Martin and Johnson's other teammate, Gordon, has been looking for that fifth championship. Could this be the year he gets it?
Time will only tell who is crowned the '09 Champion at Homestead-Miami in November. But one thing is for sure in just a few short races we will know the names of the twelve drivers who have a shot at it. Until then we will all have to just sit back and enjoy the ride to the end of the season.
